Looking to 2012/2013

TAKE STOCK/MEMBERSHIP INFO:

As we are wrapping up one school year, we look ahead to another. Most HTE families are preparing to complete the enrollment process, if you haven’t already done so. One clarification on an issue that trips up almost everyone:

If a family “Takes Stock” with any amount over $15, you are considered a member of PTO and it is unnecessary to pay the $15 dues. You see the dues option b/c we understand that some families may not be able to Take Stock at this time.

2013 PTO BOARD:

A tremendous thanks goes out to our “retiring” PTO board members: 2nd VP, Amy Paulsen, and our Co-Presidents, Laena Loucks and Sharon Murdock. These ladies have given so generously of their time and energy and we are grateful to them! Because they all still have children at HTE, they are willing to stay involved with PTO.

Your incoming board for 2012-13 will be:

Pres: Neila Pannell
1st VP: Sari Brockner
2nd VP: Marilee Bergstrom
Secretary: Christy Pope
Co-Treasurers: Debi Randall and Tamara James
Communications: Vicky Dowsett

BOOK SWAP!!!!!!

Coming Soon For the first time at Heartland Elementary…

As we near the end of the school year our goal is to get fresh summer reading material in the hands of our students. Instead of the traditional book fair this spring, we are going green while saving green (money) and swapping books.

If your child wishes to participate, please send age appropriate books to school the week of May 7-11.
We will have a Pre-School – 2nd grade swap and a 3rd – 5th grade swap. Your child will receive one ticket for each approved book they donate.

These books need to be appropriate for other students in their grade level. They can donate books for the other grade levels, but will not receive tickets for those books. The Book Swap will take place during the school day on Monday, May 21. Please contact Mrs. Pool if you have questions.

Flat Stanley – One Heartland, One Book

Our One Heartland, One Book project is different this year!

We will still celebrate our book, Flat Stanley, in the spring. However, this is a year long project!

You should have received the book with a three page stapled document in it. These pages explain the project, give you the letter to include with your Flat Stanley when you launch him into the US Mail Service, and a template for your family to decorate. If you missed the documents you can download them here.

Your family’s Flat Stanley can be male or female, dressed for the beach or the mountains, however you want him to look. :)

THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT YOU SEND HIM ON HIS JOURNEY SOON!!!

We want him to be able to travel for as much of the school year as possible.

When you hear back from him…
1- Tell your teacher where he has been! There are giant maps located in the hall near the library and every student in the school will have an opportunity to mark on the maps where their Flat Stanley has gone.
2- Keep all letters, e-mails, souvenirs, etc. that you might receive. Hopefully your Flat Stanley will return in April. Then your family will have time to organize your collection of cool stuff! These will all be displayed during our One Heartland, One Book celebration on May 1st.

If you have questions, please contact Beth Pool (4th Grade Teacher) or Sharon Murdock (PTO Co-President).

We highly encourage you to participate. This is a really fun adventure for our Heartland Community!

The 2011-2012 Heartland Yearbook

The 2011-2012 Heartland Yearbook — “Diary of a Heartland Kid” — is still available for purchase!

This year the books are being printed by the Blue Valley District Printing Services, which enables us to offer them at a lower price — just $12. We’ll have more pages, more features, more photos, and more fun for less cost to you.

In addition, your child’s yearbook will be personalized with his or her name, teacher and grade at no extra cost to you. (A single yearbook purchased by families with multiple students at Heartland will be personalized with the oldest child’s information.) Please consider purchasing a book for each of your Heartland students.

Optional items available are a current events insert for $2 and a clear cover protector for $1.

Visit the Blue Valley Fee & Meal Payment System to place your order now through March 2.

https://secure.bluevalleyk12.org/onlinePayments/

Because final quantities must be provided at the submission deadline in March, this is the only time Heartland yearbooks are sold.

Please note that the deadline for ordering is next Friday, March 2.

We look forward to seeing your child and all of our Heartland friends in this year’s yearbook “Diary of a Heartland Kid — Jags Rule!”
